When to Consult
Consult when you have questions about:
- what knowledge might be expected for PLA in a certain area
- how to appropriately title knowledge that you have acquired for PLA
- skills and competencies that relate to specific academic and professional areas
- a field of study outside your mentor's primary area of expertise
Consultation Process
Students and/or mentors can connect with faculty consultants.
Email CDLFacultyConsultants@esc.edu Include:
- name
- area of study
- mentor's name
- specific subject area of your question (e.g., PLA in computer programming, skills expected of managers)
Your question will be directed to the appropriate consultant.
When the consultation has been completed, consultants will send a summary email to both student and mentor

Dr. John M. Beckem II
Background
Dr. John M. Beckem II is a faculty member in the areas of Finance and Management Studies. His research interests include teaching, learning, and career development for first-generation adult students.

Dr. Jianhao Chen
Background
Dr. Jianhao Chen is a faculty member in the area of study of Science, Math, and Technology. He has been a mentor for more than 10 years in the fields of computing related areas. He also consults with students on PLAs in the computing areas.

Dr. Anant R. Deshpande
Background
Dr. Anant R. Deshpande is a faculty member in business. He has a Ph.D. in business administration. His research interests include concurrent engineering practices, enhancing supply chain performance, and mass-customization practices. He has served as a consultant to academia and industry in the area of supply chain management.

Dr. Susan Oaks
Background
Dr. Susan Oaks is a faculty member in the areas of writing and literature. She has been a mentor for many years in writing, literature, humanities, and all areas of study.

Dr. Kim Stote
Background
Dr. Kim Stote (PhD, MPH, RDN) is a faculty member in health studies. She has experience in the primary areas of health science, public health, health research methodology, and adult education. She earned a Doctorate of Nutrition Science, and the Master of Public Health from the School of Public Health at the University of South Florida. She has been a Registered Dietitian/Nutritionist for over 20 years.
